Fin-tastic as Wrights Plastics develop lightweight display option for M&S
Perspex® approved supplier Wrights Plastics have used Alupanel Aluminium Composite, the only product of its type manufactured in the UK, to create a lightweight display solution for one of the UK’s best-loved retail brands, Marks and Spencer.
M&S use ‘fins’ to cover the ends of retail display gondolas. Traditionally they have used fins manufactured from MDF. They weighed in at about 45 kilos each making them difficult for staff to manoeuvre when creating and updating displays. They asked the team at Wrights Plastics – with their experience of developing lightweight retail display solutions for M&S - to see if there was an alternative. Thanks to Perspex Distribution there was.
Alupanel’s combination of impressive rigidity and ultrawhite finish makes it both hard wearing and aesthetically pleasing for such retail products. Alupanel is produced with a thin aluminium skin and polyethylene core meeting the requirements for a lightweight solution - the new fin is now just 15 kilos – much easier for staff to move about. And the reduced weight per unit means lower distribution costs, and that means less environmental impact.
The retailer was so delighted that they asked the West Bromwich-based retail display specialist to manufacture over 3000 ‘fins’ in a variety of sizes, as well as tasking them with distribution to around 800 M&S stores across the UK.
In total over 11,818.50 m2 of 3mm Alupanel white/gloss acm sheets were used in the manufacturing process.
