Perspex® on the big screen
Featured product: Perspex® Clear Acrylic
Inplas Fabrications and their highly skilled craftsmen have been working with Perspex® acrylic for many years, creating innovative designs for the largest brands, events and products. Their creations also feature in the latest Hollywood blockbusters including Ridley Scott’s current sci-fi movie Prometheus.
6mm clear Perspex® sheets were used to create the Medi Bed in Prometheus (see image above). Working closely with the films props department, the sheets were thermoformed to mould the intricate convex and concave design of the main body panels. The dramatic set was brought to life with illuminations and hundreds of laser cut clear opal, frosted and pearl finished bezels.
The exceptional light transmission of clear Perspex® acrylic is higher than that of glass and provides the outstanding clarity required for the ‘big screen’. With an extensive range of colours, textures and finishes, Perspex® acrylic offers versatile solutions for fabrication projects.
Inplas were also involved in the extraordinary set design for the blockbuster movie Charlie and the Chocolate factory. Four eye-catching glass elevators were produced from 25mm, 30mm and 40mm clear Perspex® acrylic. The stunning finish was made possible using a brand new bonding technique to ensure perfect joint clarity.
