A Perspex® acrylic Cave awarded Silver

Fabrication

Up and coming designer Sophie Walker produced the award winning Cave Pavilion garden at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show, picking up a much sought after Silver award by the judges.  The garden has set the record as the first garden of fully traceable plants at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show, with a structure created in thick Perspex® acrylic.

The conceptual garden was produced with support from Sue & Bleddyn Wynn-Jones and presented in partnership with The Garden Museum.

Perspex® clear silk in 10mm thickness was chosen by Sophie to produce a light-box container for the plants.  The Perspex® creates a dense, obscure side view of the pavilion, whilst a single aperture cut through one wall reveals the garden within, filled with a wild array of plants tumbling in all directions.

The garden creates a framed view of the landscape within – there is no entrance to the garden so the glimpses of plants touching the Perspex® walls help visitors explore the space with their imagination as they walk around the structure.
