The Challenge
Abplas was tasked with a unique design brief to create an LED-lit display wall to showcase eight bottles of Diageo whisky at a trade show. The display needed to be semi-transparent, allowing light to shine through from the base to highlight the whisky's colour. The final product had to be structurally sound, safe for a public exhibition, and reusable for future events venues. Additionally, the client requested a scaled-down, three-panel version for use as a window and merchandising display.
The Solution
Abplas chose to use PERSPEX® Opal acrylic to achieve a stunning, evenly lit effect across each panel, despite the shallow depth. 5mm Opal 030 provided the perfect light transmission for the illuminated panels.
To ensure the panels would fit together seamlessly at different venues, a custom 10mm Palsun polycarbonate base plate was designed. This connected the panels and provided electrical access along the wall. To ensure the client was happy with the design before full-scale production, Abplas produced a mock-up to confirm the lighting and colours would meet expectations.
The Result
The collaboration resulted in a stunning and highly effective whisky wall. The PERSPEX® Opal panels, expertly lit with LEDs, created a beautiful visual display that drew attention to the Diageo whisky bottles. The final product was not only visually impressive but also robust and reusable, successfully installed at The Whisky Exchange Exhibition Show in London.
This project is a testament to how Abplas's expert fabrication, combined with the quality materials from Perspex Distribution, can bring a client's vision to life.
