Bespoke Perspex® Acrylic Display Cases for Tate St Ives

Exhibition & Display Stands

For more than 11 years, approved Perspex® fabricator Inplas Fabrications has partnered with PShop, specialists in high end bespoke plinths, to create bespoke Perspex® acrylic display cases for museums, galleries and exhibition spaces across the UK.

Their latest collaboration showcases how high-quality acrylic fabrication and expertly designed display furniture can work in unison to protect exhibits and enhance their presentation to audiences.

The Project

Recently installed at Tate St Ives, a series of highly bespoke wall-mounted units with Perspex® acrylic display cases were manufactured for a recently opened exhibition.

Each Perspex® display case was expertly crafted by Inplas using 12mm clear Perspex® cast acrylic, delivering exceptional optical clarity while providing robust protection for the artworks on display. The cases were carefully manufactured and finished to create clean, seamless joints and an appearance that allows visitors to focus entirely on the exhibited pieces.

To complement the premium gallery environment, each unit received a specialist spray finish from Pshop, creating a refined, high-end aesthetic that integrates perfectly with the exhibition design and gallery environment.

When presenting valuable artwork, artefacts and collectables, display materials must balance protection, aesthetics and longevity. Perspex® clear cast acrylic continues to be the material of choice for museums, galleries and exhibition designers for several key reasons:

Exceptional Optical Clarity - Perspex® acrylic offers outstanding light transmission, allowing artwork to be viewed with remarkable clarity.

Lightweight Yet Strong -  At approximately half the weight of glass, Perspex® acrylic enables the creation of larger display cases and wall-mounted installations without excessive structural loading. This makes transportation, installation and maintenance significantly easier.

Design Flexibility - Perspex® acrylic can be fabricated into bespoke shapes and sizes, allowing designers and fabricators, such as Inplas, to create display solutions tailored precisely to the requirements of each exhibition. Clean joins, polished edges and seamless finishes help create protective enclosures that don’t distract from the items on display.

Enhanced Safety - In public spaces such as museums and galleries, safety is paramount. Perspex® offers excellent impact resistance compared with glass, reducing the risk of breakage and making it particularly suitable for high-traffic visitor environments.

A Long-Standing Partnership

The relationship between Inplas Fabrication and PShop demonstrates the value of combining specialist fabrication expertise with innovative display design.

Over the past decade, the partnership has delivered numerous projects featuring bespoke Perspex® display cases mounted on custom plinths and display furniture. Together, they have helped museums, galleries, collectors and exhibition designers showcase everything from fine art and sculpture to historic artefacts and luxury products.  View the image gallery to see even more examples of their collaborative projects…
