Approved fabricators Abplas went international with their latest Perspex® acrylic project fabricated in their South West London base.
Acclaimed design agency Blond approached Abplas seeking a manufacturer that could bring their design concept to life for an installation at Milan Design Week – and Abplas certainly succeeded in the challenge.
The design concept included a ‘floating’ glowing cube inside a large frosted plinth upon which a display case would need to be supported – easier said than done!
Measuring 1600 width x 800 depth x 850mm height, Abplas created the substantial outer box using 15mm Perspex® Clear Frost S2 000. An inner lightbox was then built offering 24V colour changing LEDs powered by an 18 hour rechargeable battery creating the desired ‘floating’ effect.
The final challenge of the project was that the boxes needed to be robust enough to withstand transportation to Milan Design Week where it was being displayed in an exhibition featuring one of Blond’s clients.
